I am trained as a person-centred counsellor with a passion for creative arts therapies and a deep appreciation for nature. My therapeutic approach emphasises the importance of creating a safe and empathetic space for clients to explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences. My approach is rooted in the core principles of humanistic psychology, specifically the person-centred therapy developed by Carl Rogers which is a talk based therapy.

My sessions focus on building a genuine and trusting relationship with my clients, where they feel accepted and understood without judgement. The person-centred approach is based on the idea that individuals have an innate tendency toward self-actualisation (everything you are capable of becoming) and personal growth. My role as a counsellor is to facilitate this process by being real and authentic, and by providing unconditional positive regard (showing complete support and acceptance of a person no matter what that person says or does) and empathy.
I don’t practise out of a typical therapeutic room. For face to face sessions, we will meet near my home in Hobsonville Point or at a pre agreed upon location and either walk, sit in a local park, or find a suitable alternative like a cafe to chat in. This reality adds some complexities regarding confidentiality but also adds the benefit of being in nature and breaking out of the classic therapeutic rooms you may be used to.

With my love of the arts and the great outdoors, my sessions may incorporate creative arts therapies such as art, music, drama, or movement to encourage clients to explore and communicate their emotions in non-verbal ways. Creative arts therapies can serve as powerful tools for self-discovery, expression, and healing, complementing the verbal aspects of traditional counselling. Additionally, my love of nature aligns with ecotherapy principles, which recognise the therapeutic benefits of engaging with the natural world. This may look like me incorporating outdoor activities, nature walks, or even nature-based metaphors into your sessions to enhance the healing process. Although these are ways I love to work, I will not force them on you so you don’t need to be afraid of us breaking out in song, unless you’re especially keen for this…

Ethically, it's essential to uphold the principles of confidentiality, informed consent, and respect for client autonomy. Collaborating with you to establish clear boundaries and goals ensures a mutually agreed-upon therapeutic journey.
As a person-centred counsellor, I prioritise you and work collaboratively to empower you in personal growth and self-discovery. If you’re simply looking for advice or to be told directly how to solve a problem, I may not be the best therapist for you. Likewise I will not diagnose you in any way, as this is beyond my scope of competence.
I will always do my best to adhere to ethical guidelines and regularly engage in supervision and ongoing professional development to enhance my skills and stay attuned to the evolving field of counselling.
